Does this trade make sense for the Los Angeles Lakers?
While he is 33-years-old, Eric Gordon has proven this season to still be resourceful on both ends of the floor. Between being a high-level three-point shooter and someone who can hold his own defensively, Gordon would be a really solid fit next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the Lakers.
Eric Gordon can play off-the-ball and while his contract is hefty, he would contribute at a higher rate than that of Talen Horton-Tucker and Kendrick Nunn combined.
Seeing as the contracts of Horton-Tucker and Nunn add up to about $15.5 million combined for next season, the Lakers would need to free up a little bit more cap space, which is why they would likely need to waive Stanley Johnson and his $2.3 million team option for next season.
This does not mean that the Lakers would have to get rid of Johnson, as they could re-sign him in free agency, but in terms of making the financials line up for this trade, they would need a little bit of flexibility to bring in Eric Gordon.

Getting out of both Talen Horton-Tucker’s and Kendrick Nunn’s contracts will be very worthwhile for the Lakers. The only question though is if Eric Gordon is the right player for them this offseason, especially since he will solve just one issue on the perimeter.
