Does this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?

Between the Russell Westbrook trade scenario and this one, it almost seems like the Rockets are the only team in the offseason that can save the Los Angeles Lakers from collapsing.

If they realize this, which GM Rafael Stone and the front office probably have, the Rockets will be in the “driver’s seat” for all negotiations with the Lakers.

Houston knows that they do not need to make a deal, whereas the Lakers must find ways to add new high-level talents to their roster.

The Rockets may be interested in Talen Horton-Tucker and/or Kendrick Nunn, but they do not want to get rid of Eric Gordon for the sake of trading him and Houston will most definitely want at least one draft pick in this deal as “collateral” for “helping” the Lakers.

Los Angeles was unwilling to include a draft pick in the trade deadline proposal of Russell Westbrook for John Wall and now. Unless the Lakers were willing to do so in a deal for Gordon, the Rockets would have better options elsewhere at their disposal to move Gordon.

Talen Horton-Tucker could turn out to be a long-term building block in Houston, but other teams could offer a deal with more value.
