The City And Fans Want An NBA Team Back
Seattle has been pleading for more sports franchises over the years and their fan bases with their current teams have been as loyal as they come. Both the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL and the Seattle Sounders in the MLS are always amongst the top of their league’s in average attendance and this would likely carry over to the NBA should there be a new basketball expansion franchise.
The city of Seattle has also been gearing up for a possible expansion team over the years, as they recently invested $1.15 billion into the redevelopment of the Climate Pledge Arena.
As of right now, only the Seattle Kraken, the city’s NHL franchise that was an expansion team in 2021, play in the Climate Pledge Arena and the venue is the perfect spot for a new NBA franchise.
With the renovation, the capacity of the arena was increased to about 17,000 people for basketball games, 15,000 for hockey games and about 16,000 people for concerts and events.

Seattle has a very loyal fan base and many sports fans in the Seattle area are still die-hard NBA fans. This city wants an NBA franchise back, it has the population to support a new franchise and they would not have to create any new “team” or “branding” per se since they could use the Seattle SuperSonics again.
Already having a strong fan base intact, Seattle seems like an obvious choice if the NBA was to add a new franchise or two over the next several years.
