Time for Indiana Pacers to Move On?

It has been a real season of change for the Indiana Pacers. After entering the 2021-22 campaign with real optimism about their chances of being a competitive team, they find themselves holding a 20-41 record—ranking ahead of only the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference.

Among the key changes the Pacers underwent was the decision to part with Domantas Sabonis in a trade with the Sacramento Kings that landed them Tyrese Haliburton.

Now, Haliburton is the franchise point guard in Indiana. In fact, Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard even described Haliburton as “a point guard of the future” and compared him to the team finding a franchise-quarterback like Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck.

“We have a point guard of our future, and if you have been in this position for a long time, getting a point guard that is young, with upside and you feel like you can build around for the next 10 years, those don’t come around very often,” Pacers president Kevin Pritchard said, via IndyStar. “Tyrese is that guy.”

“We really feel like when we put the ball more in Tyrese’s hands that he can really blossom into something special at 21-years-old. For me, when you get those kind of guys, it’s like getting the (Peyton Mannings) and the Andrew Lucks.”

With such a high regard for Haliburton, could the Pacers opt to part with Malcolm Brogdon in order to fully pave the way for Haliburton? Brogdon initially joined the organization to take the reigns as a point guard after spending most of time off the ball with the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Indiana Pacers will be playing Brogdon and Haliburton alongside each other in the backcourt and coach Rick Carlisle likes the combination of basketball IQ they both share. But again, is Bnogdon going to be content doing so?
