Over the last few NBA seasons, the Indiana Pacers have really struggled to find their footing in the Eastern Conference because of injuries. This season, they once again have had to deal with injuries, which ultimately led them to taking a step back at the trade deadline.

Myles Turner, Caris LeVert and Domantas Sabonis had been three key names on the trade block all season long for the Pacers and the team ultimately decided to move on from both LeVert and Sabonis, adding a handful of future value in the process.

In exchange for the two core pieces, the Pacers received Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield, a 2022 first-round pick and two future second-round picks.

Maybe Indiana could have received more in total for Caris LeVert and Domantas Sabonis, but they did make out well at the trade deadline and now, the Pacers’ attention is turned towards the future.

Trading Myles Turner in the offseason is still a possibility for this team, as is potentially trading Malcolm Brogdon. Indiana and Brogdon recently agreed to a two-year, $45 million extension this season, keeping him under contract through the 2024-25 season, but they may not have a long-term need for him anymore with Tyrese Haliburton cementing himself as the face of the franchise.

The idea of trading Malcolm Brogdon has been apparent since this season’s trade deadline and HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto wrote before the deadline that “rival executives around the league believe the Indiana Pacers will trade Malcolm Brogdon this offseason. …”

The Pacers have made their intentions to “re-tool” instead of “rebuild” very clear, but this does not mean that Malcolm Brogdon is off-the-table in trade discussions around the league.

There are quite a few teams that will be looking for a new point guard in the offseason while he has been injury prone as of the last few seasons, Malcolm Brogdon is an impactful two-way guard that can really make his presence felt defensively.

Should Indiana look to move on from Malcolm Brogdon in the offseason, they could look to target one of these three players.
