How This Deal Impacts Memphis Grizzlies
The Memphis Grizzlies are in a great spot where they are. They have the inside track to home-court advantage for at least the first round of the NBA Playoffs and have a ton of young talent that is continuing to develop.
If they stay the course through the deadline, maybe making a deal on the fringe to upgrade a specific area, no one would fault them. Seeing how far this core can go and what they need to add down the road is a perfectly fine plan. But, why wait when you can upgrade the ceiling right now?
Acquiring Ben Simmons would break through the ceiling of the current team and build one a few floors up. The potential of a Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, Zhaire Williams, Simmons and Jaren Jackson lineup on both ends of the court is salivating. That is a group that would be dangerous on both ends of the court and has switchability 2-through-5.
Imagine what this team would look like in the open court with Simmons and Morant leading the way. Jackson is a great fit alongside Simmons as well given his ability to stretch the floor and his versatility to fill numerous roles on the court.

Memphis isn’t likely to make a trade of this magnitude, but acquiring a player as talented as Ben Simmons, even with his flaws, without moving on from Morant, Jackson or Bane is a huge win.
