Minnesota Timberwolves Still Open To Making Big Splash At Deadline

Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell have been one of the best scoring trios in the league this season and they have the Minnesota Timberwolves in perfect position to possibly lock-up a playoff spot for just the second-time since 2005.

The 26-25 Timberwolves have shown big improvements on both ends of the floor this season under head coach Chris Finch, yet they are still looking to upgrade their talent ahead of the NBA trade deadline.

New ownership led by Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez are looking to change the narrative of the Timberwolves being a losing franchise over the last decade or so, which is why the NBA trade deadline is vital to this organization.

Trading for Ben Simmons does not seem like a move that Minnesota is interested in anymore, but adding another high-level talent is not out of the question.

Indiana’s Myles Turner, Toronto’s Chris Boucher and even Rockets’ Christian Wood have been mentioned as three possible frontcourt additions for them to pair with Towns, but the Timberwolves have also shown a level of interest in trading for an impactful two-way player on the wing like Pistons’ Jerami Grant.

Malik Beasley and Patrick Beverley are two potential trade assets this team could look to leverage, as is Josh Okogie, who is in the final year of his rookie contract. These three players’ contracts this season add up to about $32.6M in combined salaries, giving the Timberwolves the money they need to add another high-level talent to their roster.

Minnesota also owns the rights to four total draft picks this season, three being second-round picks, and they own all of their first-round picks through 2029, giving them the draft capital they may need to pull off a big deal at the NBA trade deadline.

Currently 1.5 games back from the Denver Nuggets for the 6-seed in the Western Conference, the Minnesota Timberwolves are going to be looking to add another impactful player at the NBA trade deadline this season in attempts to solidify their playoff position.
