Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
The Hawks re-signed John Collins to a massive contract this past offseason, but keeping Collins long-term has not seemed like something the Hawks would like to do. They absolutely like the production the young forward has given them, but they do not view him as a max-contract type of player and he is not a number two option that can lead them to a championship.
After not agreeing to terms on a contract extension prior to the 2020-21 season, Atlanta gave in during the offseason and gave Collins the five-year, $125M deal that he wanted because they could not risk losing him in free agency.
Given their cap situation though and the fact that they are not winning games right now, the Hawks are going to think long and hard about trading John Collins at the trade deadline. If he truly does not want to be there anymore, they will find somewhere to move him, freeing up a ton of cap space for the Hawks to play around with in the offseason.
By making this trade with the Golden State Warriors, the Hawks would be adding a ton of future value, but this is definitely not the best trade they could get for Collins.

Atlanta has no need for James Wiseman given that they have both Clint Capela and Onyeka Okongwu, plus the same can be said about Kevon Looney. Jonathan Kuminga really is the only player of value to the Hawks given their need for impact players on the wing.
They could take the value they are getting and run with it in this trade with the Warriors, but the Hawks do not really better themselves now or long-term by trading John Collins to the Warriors.
