Does this trade make sense for the Memphis Grizzlies?
Kyle Anderson is in the final year of his contract, as is Jarrett Culver after his team option for 2022-23 was not picked up. The Memphis Grizzlies will likely let Anderson walk in free agency as they look to find ways to better their roster moving forward, so why not try and get value for him right now?
With both Dillon Brooks and Ja Morant expected to get massive contract extensions in the near future, maybe taking on Danilo Gallinari’s contract is not something this team would like to do, but then again, he is an experienced player who could fill an immediate scoring need off-the-bench.
The 33-year-old wing has not played great this season for the Atlanta Hawks, only averaging 9.6 points, but he has shot 41.5% from the floor and 41.8% from three-point range, his highest three-point shooting percentage since the 2018-19 season when he shot 43.3% from deep.
His entire career, Gallinari has been a terrific three-point shooting threat and the Grizzlies really do need another versatile scorer on the perimeter. As a team, they are shooting just 34.7% from deep, which ranks them 16th in the league. They are not a terrible shooting team, but Memphis’ only weakness offensively lies on the perimeter.

Again, his contract is a lot to take on, as Danilo Gallinari is making roughly $42M through next season, but they know what they are getting with Gallinari and also get a future first-round pick from Atlanta.
There are better moves for the Memphis Grizzlies to make this season and they could surely look to get more value than Danilo Gallinari from the Atlanta Hawks, but this is not a terrible trade for them to consider this season.
