Does this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?
Caris LeVert, Larry Nance Jr. and Norman Powell bring a ton of value and potential to the Philadelphia 76ers to help them contend for a title this season, but there are definitely problems with this trade should the Sixers fail to make the NBA Finals yet again.
The problem that presents itself with this trade for the 76ers is the fact that all three players they would be getting back in this trade for Ben Simmons are under contract through at least next season.
LeVert, Nance Jr. and Powell are guaranteed a combined $45M in payroll next season and as a result, they would be “married” to all three players for at least a whole year. Maybe this is enough value for Daryl Morey and this front-office, but I am not too sure this trade really benefits the 76ers from a money standpoint.
They would be paying more in taxes next season, have no room to bring in any other players and on top of everything else, they would be tied down to Norman Powell for a long, long time.

Powell recently signed a five-year, $90M contract with the Portland Trail Blazers with no opt out clauses and no team options. He is guaranteed this $90M over the next five seasons, which is definitely a contract the 76ers would not want to have hanging over their heads.
From a talent and trade structure standpoint, this trade definitely works for the Philadelphia 76ers, but it may be way too much financial liability for them to take on. On the other side of things though, winning a title tends to outweigh any other concerns a franchise may have.
