Does this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?

At the end of the day, as much as Jerami Grant has helped this Detroit Pistons team grow over the last year or so, he is not someone that is going to be around long-term. It is going to be a while before the Pistons can turn themselves into playoff contenders and by the time they do so, Grant will be near the end of his career.

Once his contract is up following next season, it is hard to believe that he will stick around in Detroit and given how valuable of a trade asset he is right now, the Pistons would be smart to try and leverage him in trade talks ahead of this season’s trade deadline.

Getting first-round draft picks and young talents is definitely something that is going to be intriguing to this team, which is why this trade with the Bulls could definitely make sense for them.

Coby White can play on or off-the-ball in the backcourt, Tony Bradley gives Detroit some depth behind Isaiah Stewart and Derrick Jones Jr. is one of the best pure athletes in the league.

While he is not much of a scorer, Jones Jr. could provide some much needed depth on the wing and help the Pistons given his rebounding abilities. This trade also makes the Pistons a better transition team, which is what they could ultimately become in this league.

Having a ton of young, athletic prospects, the Pistons can definitely be a team that turns defense into offense quickly given how well guys like Cade Cunningham, Saddiq Bey and others can push the tempo.

All three young players the Pistons get in return from the Bulls in this trade are more than capable of playing up-tempo basketball, which is why this trade could ultimately change the dynamic of Detroit for the better.

Holding onto Jerami Grant past the deadline also makes sense for the Detroit Pistons, but this trade solely depends on how Troy Weaver and their front-office view things right now.

If they really do want Grant long-term, then they will not trade him, but if they fear that Grant will leave next year, then trading him now makes the most sense since his value is at an all-time high.
