Would this trade make sense for the Toronto Raptors?
Entering the 2021-22 NBA season, there was thought that Malachi Flynn would play more of a factor in the point guard position for the Toronto Raptors than he has so far.
Flynn has appeared in 16 regular season games and is averaging just 8.6 minutes in those outings. With Fred VanVleet and Gary Trent Jr. getting the job done in the starting backcourt, there would be value in having Kemba Walker in a sixth man role.
If Walker puts up big numbers in a role similar to what Derrick Rose has played with the New York Knicks, there’s a lot of value to be had for the Raptors. Of course, there’s a chance that doesn’t pan out or Walker isn’t interested in doing it, but it’s an intriguing thought.
It was difficult to involve Goran Dragic as a regular member of the team when he made those comments about the Raptors after the Kyle Lowry sign-and-trade that moved him from the Miami Heat.

With Walker, he’s got another year on his deal — making him more of a “long-term” piece than Dragic, who was always going to just be a rental that didn’t have much interest in being in Toronto.
