Does this trade make sense for the Indiana Pacers?
Trading Justin Holiday and whoever else the Indiana Pacers decide to trade makes sense because this franchise needs to go through some kind of a rebuild.
They are not the threats they wanted to be in the Eastern Conference and as a result, keeping what they have is not going to get them anywhere.
Cam Reddish is not going to make a huge difference for this team in the short-term, but he can be a young building block that they continue to develop in order to be an effective two-way player moving forward.
Justin Holiday is going to play through the end of his contract next season in Indiana and become a free agent. We could say the same about Reddish entering the final year of his rookie contract next year, but the Pacers would much rather keep Cam Reddish over Holiday because of the fact that he is younger and possesses more long-term potential.

Giving up a first-round pick in 2023 could wind up being costly to the Pacers, but if the Hawks agreed to make this pick Top-14 protected, then the Pacers would be fine in the sense that they would retain their draft pick should they not make the playoffs, instead sending out a future first-rounder instead.
While they would wind up losing a first-round pick at some point, the Pacers could make this pick protected from 2023-2025, giving them plenty of time to continue building themselves back into a threat.
This is a very balanced trade for both teams involved and there is really nothing not to like about it from the Pacers perspective other than the fact that they are leveraging a draft pick.
They would be getting a younger, impactful wing with a score-first mentality, plus a second-round pick in 2023 as collateral. Indiana needs all the future talent they can get right now and Reddish could certainly carve out a role for this team both now and in the future.
