Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?
It seems like the Atlanta Hawks are leaning towards trading Cam Reddish, which is not a good nor a bad idea. Moving him does make sense from a cap space/money perspective, but at the same time, he has been one of their steady offensive weapons given all of their injuries.
The Hawks extended the contracts of Trae Young, Kevin Hureter, Clint Capela and John Collins recently, making all four of these guys under contract through the 2024-25 season. They do not have much cap space left as a result and the contracts of both De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish will be up at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.
Both players are up for contract extensions this upcoming offseason and if the Hawks had to choose one player right now, they would most likely settle with keeping De’Andre Hunter over Cam Reddish.
They just cannot afford to keep everyone, which is why leveraging Reddish for value now makes the most sense. Justin Holiday can not only be a reliable three-point shooter on offense, but he can hold his own on defense and continue to help make the Hawks a playoff threat.

Atlanta would also be getting the first-round pick they are looking for in a Reddish trade, so there is really nothing for them to be unhappy with in this trade with the Indiana Pacers.
Maybe they would not want to keep Cam Reddish around in the Eastern Conference, but there is value to be had in this trade and the Atlanta Hawks need to take any value that is presented to them.
