Does this trade make sense for the Sacramento Kings?
The only way this trade makes sense for the Sacramento Kings is if they are willing to go “all-in” on building around De’Aaron Fox and take a step back in terms of rebuilding.
Right now, they may think that they have a chance to contend for a playoff spot/play-in tournament spot, but in reality, this team is far away from being anything close to a playoff threat.
This is not to knock the talent they currently have on their roster, but the Kings have proven time and time again that they are not able to build a winning roster and team as an organization.
Tearing everything down and rebuilding around Fox may be the only way they can turn their misfortunes around and turn themselves into a playoff team again.

Right now though, the Kings are tight financially, they do not have a surplus of draft capital and there continues to be a lot of “behind the scenes” drama within this organization between management and players, which is why they are not going to be going anywhere this year.
They will win some games and be competitive since they have some really good players on their team, but the upside for the Kings is greatly limited. Trading Richaun Holmes for a lot of value could make sense, but this may not be the trade to do so in.
Precious Achiuwa and Dalano Banton are two unproven, young talents in this league and Goran Dragic does not bring anything to this Kings team.
Getting Toronto’s 2022 first-round pick this year would be highly advantageous to the Kings to be able to add another young, high-level talent, but since it is protected Top-14, there is no guarantee that Sacramento would be able to get this pick.

There are too many liability factors in this trade for Sacramento and seeing as they do not need to trade Richaun Holmes since they just agreed to a long-term deal with him, they should not be in a rush to give him up for anything. If the Kings are to trade Holmes, they need to be getting two young and dynamic talents on the wing, plus some draft compensation, which is why this trade does not make much sense for them.
