Los Angeles Lakers Emerge As Favorites To Land Dynamic Star

Los Angeles Lakers, NBA Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

The 2024 NBA offseason moves closer and closer each passing night for the Los Angeles Lakers. They are theoretically still alive in their first-round series against the Denver Nuggets, but for all intents and purposes, their offseason will officially be underway in the next few days.

The Nuggets took a 3-0 series lead on Thursday night with a 112-105 victory. That is 11 straight wins for Denver over Los Angeles as the purple and gold cannot figure out how to get over the hump against their Western Conference adversaries.

The Lakers were playing well once again in the first half, as they did in Games 1 and 2. But in the second half, specifically the third quarter, the Nuggets turned up the intensity and were able to ride that to another win.

There is no shame in losing to the defending NBA Champions as the Nuggets have had their way with several teams in the league. But, losing 11 straight times with LeBron James and Anthony Davis on your roster is certainly concerning.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers Updates

This offseason, general manager Rob Pelinka is going to have to get creative when figuring out a way to upgrade this roster. The Lakers have been mentioned as a potential trade suitor for several players as they are always in the market for acquiring a star.

One player who could end up calling Los Angeles home in the coming months is Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks. As shared by Bovada, via Dunk Central on X, the Lakers are the favorites to land Young during the 2024 NBA Offseason should he be traded.

Along with Young, the Lakers have been linked to NBA All-Star Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is expected to hit the market as well, barring a deep run in the postseason by the Cavaliers.

It will be interesting to see how things unfold for Los Angeles. They have the assets to pull off a big trade with several first-round draft picks and moveable contracts at their disposal. Of course, their No. 1 goal in the 2024 NBA offseason will be retaining LeBron James, who is widely expected to decline his player option and hit free agency.
