Does this trade make sense for the Toronto Raptors?
This would be a fantastic trade for the Raptors, but it is highly unlikely that they would be able to land Richaun Holmes without giving up some key assets on their roster.
Precious Achiuwa and Dalano Banton are two players they do like and intend on building with for the future, but they are nowhere close to as valuable as someone like Holmes.
The center position has always been a tough spot for the Raptors to fill over the years and Richaun Holmes could work wonders for them because he is one of the best finishers around the rim.
Shooting 71.2% on the year and 75.5% on paint touches, Richaun Holmes is the picture-perfect center for the Raptors.

Defensively, he is not much of a shot-blocker, but he is one of the better, more consistent rebounders in the league and on offense, Holmes running pick-and-rolls with Fred VanVleet would be hard to contain for opposing teams.
Tristan Thompson has always been a strong rebounder and with the Raptors likely to look at trade offers for Chris Boucher, Thompson may not be a bad bench replacement for them to target in their frontcourt either because of the fact that he can play either the power-forward or center position.
Giving up Achiuwa and Banton really is not much of a loss for Toronto in this trade because they would be getting Richaun Holmes on a long-term deal.
Being under contract through at least the 2023-24 season, the Raptors would not have to worry about their frontcourt anymore and could turn their attention to surrounding their stars with even more shooters and secondary scorers.
