Does this trade make sense for the Los Angeles Clippers?

The Los Angeles Clippers have built their roster for the playoffs, so while an 11-10 start may look concerning, they really have nothing to be worried about.

Paul George and Reggie Jackson have led this team so far this season and with 8 guys averaging at least 9 points on the year, they really do have a solid balance of scoring between their first and second units.

The main reason why this team has not been playing well as of late is because of injuries. Nicolas Batum has missed the Clippers last five games due to being in the league’s health and safety protocols and guys like Serge Ibaka and Marcus Morris Sr. have also missed a handful of games.

At full strength, this team has nothing to be worried about in terms of being a high-level team, but the thing the Clippers need to ask themselves is if their team is good enough to compete with the likes of the Warriors, Suns, Jazz and others in the Western Conference, especially if they do not have Kawhi Leonard.

Based on the infamous “eye test”, the answer has to be no right now, which is why adding John Wall could make some sense for this team.

After all, Wall is a former All-Star and he is coming off a season in which he averaged 20 points per game.

The Clippers currently play with the 11th fastest pace out of any team in the league and oftentimes look to push the ball in transition, something John Wall has thrived at over the course of his career. He may not be as fast as he used to be, but Wall is still faster than half the league and is still explosive when driving to the rim.

His scoring output could provide the Clippers with an extra sense of offense and help alleviate a ton of pressure off of Reggie Jackson and Paul George to do everything for this team.

This is definitely not a terrible trade for the Clippers in terms of adding more talent this season, but John Wall’s contract for next year is what would be worrisome for this team. Being tied down to him for $49M is a big ask for the Clippers, which is why they will most likely stay away from the Rockets’ veteran.
