Does this trade make sense for the Brooklyn Nets?
Assuming the Nets wait until the trade deadline to make any decision on Kyrie Irving’s future, they could very well find themselves in a position where they are just looking to get something for their All-Star guard.
With Kyrie currently sitting out, his value is not necessarily decreasing, but the return the Nets could possibly get for him is definitely taking a hit. Teams are not going to want to give up top-tier talents for Irving at the trade deadline not only because he has not played at all, but because of all the negative attention that could come with acquiring him.
This trade with San Antonio is definitely not the best offer the Nets could get, but it is something in terms of players that can contribute right away.
Derrick White could be a great catch-and-shoot type scorer like Joe Harris on the wing for the Nets and Thaddeus Young might as well be called “Mr. Consistency” given the production he brings to the table.

Scoring in the low-post, rebounding, facilitating from the top of the perimeter, being able to shoot in the mid-range, holding his own in the half-court… you name it, Thad Young can do it for your team!
Having depth is essential for championship-level teams in the league and right now, the Nets’ frontcourt is kind of thin in terms of consistency.
Nic Claxton, Blake Griffin, Paul Millsap, and James Johnson are all guys that you do not really know what you are going to get from each night, which is why someone like Young could really make a big impact for this team.
However, the Nets are still optimistic that they will be able to get Irving back at some point this season. Whether this be from him getting vaccinated or NYC changing their guidelines, Brooklyn still wants their “Big 3” to play together for the foreseeable future, which is why they will likely pass on this trade with the San Antonio Spurs.
