If they are to consider trading Kyrie Irving, the Brooklyn Nets are going to need to receive a fair amount of compensation in a trade that allows them to continue fighting for a championship right now.
Future assets and draft picks do not do anything for them right now, especially since they are a team that is “all-in” on winning a championship right away.
Derrick White is a young talent in this league, but he is also a proven backcourt scorer. Now in his fifth season in the league, White has taken the next step as an offensive threat, averaging 12.7 points, 3.5 assists and shooting 35.5% from three-point range over the course of the last two seasons.
So far this year, White is averaging 12.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.1 steals and is shooting 38.9% from the floor in 10 games with the San Antonio Spurs. As for Thaddeus Young, he is now 33-years-old, but is an impactful frontcourt presence that can be used in many different ways.

Last season in Chicago, Young had a great all-around year, averaging 12.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.1 steals and shooting 55.9% from the floor.
The Nets have used power-forwards similar to Young in Blake Griffin and Paul Millsap this season in various different roles, which is why they could look to do the same with Thad Young if they acquired him in this trade with the Spurs.
Creating a backcourt duo of Murray and Irving could definitely be intriguing for San Antonio, especially given that they have missed the playoffs the last two seasons, but at the same time, this franchise has always stayed out of the way pertaining to drama in the league, something Irving would bring with him to San Antonio.
Although they could potentially go on a run with some of their young, core pieces and Kyrie Irving leading them, there are definitely question marks on whether or not adding Irving would be a smart move for the Spurs to make at this point in their rebuilding process.
