Does this trade make sense for the Sacramento Kings?
Moving Marvin Bagley III seems like something that is going to happen at some point before the NBA trade deadline, but the Sacramento Kings need to make a decision on what they want versus what they are going to get.
It is highly unlikely that any team in the league is going to be willing to trade a 2022 or 2023 first-round pick for Marvin Bagley right now, especially with him being in the final year of his contract, which is why they may have to settle with first-round value.
Both Grant Williams and Aaron Nesmith are not terrible players and they are former first-round picks still on their rookie deals. Sacramento would also end up with a 2022 second-round pick in this deal, which could end up being a mid-second-round pick somewhere in the 40-50 range.
This is not terrible value, as the Kings would be gaining two young prospects they can continue to mold and they would end up having four total draft picks in 2022, but at the same time, is this truly the best deal they can get for a former No. 2 overall pick like Bagley?

When he is on the floor, Marvin Bagley is a difference-maker for his team, which is why they may be sacrificing a little bit too much value by taking on this trade with the Boston Celtics. If the deal is Nesmith and a first-round pick, they would probably be more than happy to send Bagley to Boston, but Grant Williams and a second-round pick is not too valuable.
Sacramento is getting better as a team and De’Aaron Fox looks like he will be an All-Star one day, but the rest of this roster is very shaky. Adding young talents is something the Kings will need to do over the years if they are to grow into a strong team in the Western Conference, but this may not be the best young talents they can get.
