Boston Celtics Receive: F Marvin Bagley III
Sacramento Kings Receive: F Grant Williams, F Aaron Nesmith, BOS 2022 2nd Round Pick

The Boston Celtics have made the playoffs 13 of the last 14 years, but they have not been to the NBA Finals since they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2010. They made the Eastern Conference Finals in 2017, 2018, and 2020, but Boston has been missing something over the years.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are two young All-Stars leading this team and with a handful of experienced talents in Al Horford, Dennis Schroder, and Marcus Smart around them, the Celtics definitely have a strong looking team this year, but they need some more help in their frontcourt.

Horford can only do so much, as can Robert Williams III, which is why the addition of Marvin Bagley III could be huge for this team. The Boston Celtics are already over the luxury tax threshold for the season, so it is tough for them to make any trades, but they do have a $17.1M TPE from doing a sign-and-trade with Evan Fournier and the Knicks this offseason.

This trade exception could be utilized to acquire Bagley, who is set to make $11.3M this season in the final year of his rookie contract. As for the Sacramento Kings, this is a team that is still a long way away from being relevant in the Western Conference.

Maybe they can sneak into the playoffs this year, but they are not a team that has a chance at beating one of the top teams in the Western Conference in a seven-game series.

Finding more ways to add young talents to build around De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton is the best thing they can do for themselves right now, which is why Grant Williams and Aaron Nesmith could be appealing.

Williams is a former first-round pick who has been known for being a tough defender both on the perimeter and on the inside. He is not much of a scorer, but Grant Williams has started off the 2021-22 season strong on offense and is shooting close to 50% from three-point range.

Aaron Nesmith was drafted 14th overall last year and while he did not play much during his rookie season, he is an impressive-looking wing with a lot of potential to grow. In Summer League this offseason, Nesmith was one of the Celtics’ best players, as he averaged 17.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and shot 50% from the floor.

By expanding their bench depth and young talent, the Kings could wind up building themselves into a playoff threat again, but the situation they have right now with Marvin Bagley III is one that needs to be resolved.

He does not want to be there anymore, his agent wants him out of Sacramento and the Kings are wanting to trade him, which is why he could wind up being the first player on the move this season.
