Does this trade make sense for the Sacramento Kings?
Moving Marvin Bagley III right now does not really make much sense for the Sacramento Kings, even if they do not want to offer him a contract extension right now. There is no rush to make a decision about Bagley’s future at this point, especially since he is set to be a restricted free agent at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Even before then, the Kings will still have the option to possibly trade him at the NBA trade deadline, especially if the young power-forward plays well during the first half of the season and can stay healthy.
The worst thing that happens for Sacramento in terms of keeping Bagley long-term is that he becomes a restricted free agent at the end of the year and they can match any offer sheet he would potentially sign in the offseason.
Ultimately, Sacramento’s problems within their organization are a lot deeper than Bagley’s contract, which is why they should not be looking to make a decision on him right now. Their main focus needs to be to enter the new season with one goal in mind — be the best version of themselves that they can be.

De’Aaron Fox, Tyrese Haliburton, and Davion Mitchell have a ton of potential to be a very strong backcourt trio in this league and Richaun Holmes really emerged as a key center last season.
The Kings have the pieces in place to be a competitive team early on, which is why they should not be looking to make any trades before the start of the season that really shake up their roster.

If things are not going well during the first month or the second month, making some trades with Marvin Bagley III and Buddy Hield are definitely on the table, but moving Bagley to OKC right now for Deck, Williams, and draft picks do not really do anything for this team in terms of being the best they can be.
