How This Trade Impacts Phoenix Suns
The Phoenix Suns were so close to winning the NBA Championship in 2021. They went up 2-0 on the Milwaukee Bucks before squandering the lead and losing in six games.
Virtually the whole rotation is back, as they will look to make another run. The only piece that is missing is Dario Saric, but the team fills that hole while upgrading another, in this deal with the Detroit Pistons.
Jerami Grant is a big upgrade on Jae Crowder. He provides more size at the power forward position in the starting five and a lot more scoring punch. Grant has proven he can be the No. 1 option for an offense and gives Monty Williams another player who can create offense other than Devin Booker.
Grant is a stout defender who can defend both forward spots, anyone on the wing, and in some circumstances can play small ball center as well. That kind of versatility would only help the Suns match up better with their opponents.

Trey Lyles would be a great replacement for the injured Saric as well. He provides a similar skill set and is ready to contribute now, something they do not know for sure about Jalen Smith.
The Suns are in win-now mode. After getting as close to the title as they were last season, they will do whatever it takes to get back there. This trade helps them remain among the upper echelon of the Western Conference.
