Detroit Pistons Receive: F Jae Crowder, F/C Jalen Smith, F/C Dario Saric, 2024 First-Round Pick, 2025 First-Round Pick Swap

The Phoenix Suns upgrade their frontcourt in a major way in this deal with the Detroit Pistons. They retool their frontcourt and hope that it is enough to keep them in the title picture in the Western Conference.

The Suns acquire Jerami Grant from the Pistons in this deal. Grant, who was among the finalists for Most Improved Player of the Year last season, is a big addition to the frontcourt mix for the Suns. 

He has proven he can be a successful two-way player and gives the offense a boost as another scoring option behind Devin Booker. Trey Lyles provides the team with someone that can step into the role Dario Saric had and provide similar production.

Landing that package from Detroit is not cheap. The Suns have to pony up a bit, beginning with their starting forward, Jae Crowder. He would likely slide into Grant’s starting spot in Detroit, while Grant takes his in Phoenix.

Jalen Smith is a high-upside prospect that would probably benefit from landing on a team that isn’t in a win-now situation such as the Suns. He needs some more refinement and development of his skill set but can’t be afforded that in Phoenix. In Detroit, he would be.

Saric is likely out for the season but is a solid contributor when healthy. He is included to help match money. The first-round pick is a nice get for Detroit as well, as rebuilding teams can never have enough assets.
