How This Trade Impacts Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons have received calls about Jerami Grant but showed little interest in making a deal. They took a chance on Grant in free agency in 2020 and it was a move that paid off for both sides.
Grant was looking for a team to allow him to spread his wings and the Pistons provided it. He loves Detroit and has a great relationship with Troy Weaver. The organization loves him and sees him as a part of its core.
As a result, they likely would turn down any offer for Grant unless it was one that truly blew them away. While not the worst trade package, this wouldn’t fall under the blown away category. But, this package would provide some value to the Pistons.
Jae Crowder could step right into the role Grant had for them as the starting power forward. He would provide veteran leadership and be a mentor for the young players on the team.

Jalen Smith needs playing time to develop his skill set. He has unicorn traits as a bouncy rim protector that showed he can stretch the floor offensively to the 3-point line. Detroit can afford to develop him, something the Suns are unable to do in their current situation.
Dario Saric likely won’t help the Pistons this season but has proven he can be a solid rotation player when healthy. He could be a good bargaining chip next summer, as he will be entering the final season of his contract during the 2022-23 season.

It also never hurts to get a first-round pick back in a deal. Detroit could use that to add another young player to their impressive-looking core, or as a trade asset. If they make some strides on the court this season, they could look to add a veteran to help them take that next step the following season.
