Who will have the bigger impact: Kuminga vs. Moody

While they did look to shop both of their lottery picks in this year’s draft, the Golden State Warriors ended up holding onto both of them and they selected Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody.

Jonathan Kuminga is one of the youngest players in the 2021 Draft Class, but he has a ton of potential to be a two-way wing in the future.

As for Moses Moody, he was known for being one of the better perimeter shooting threats in the country during his freshman year at Arkansas and was a pivotal asset in the Razorbacks making their first Elite-8 appearance since 1995. So between Kuminga and Moody, who should see more time right away for the Warriors?

Seeing as Golden State brought back Andre Iguodala and added Otto Porter Jr, on the wing as well, plus the fact that Klay Thompson is still out, Moses Moody will likely get a little more playing time than Jonathan Kuminga.

In terms of potential, Kuminga has one of the highest upsides out of any rookie in the NBA, but he is only 18-years-old and still a very raw, athletic and lengthy player.

On the wing, the Warriors are going to primarily use Wiggins, Iguodala and Porter Jr., so there is not much room for Kuminga to push his way into the rotation.

As for Moody, Jordan Poole and Damion Lee are going to be the main two contributors at the shooting guard position in Klay Thompson’s absence, but Moses Moody could also push his way into the rotation because he is a sharpshooter from the perimeter.

Kuminga was very impressive in Summer League for the Warriors, averaging 17.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals, but Warriors assistant Kris Weems told Grant Liffman of NBC Sports that Jonathan Kuminga is going to have to prove to be versatile early on if he wants to crack the rotation.

Both guys prove to be essential building blocks for the future of the Golden State Warriors, but anything can happen.

The Warriors do want to contend for a title this year and if a star player like Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal becomes available in trade talks, GM Bob Myers could be willing to move Moody or Kuminga to grab another superstar player.

Right now, both Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody are going to be on the Warriors’ Opening Night roster and while they may not see a ton of time to begin the year, both rookies could wind up holding big roles during the second half of the season.

Early on, expect Moses Moody to see more time than Jonathan Kuminga, but the two could easily swap spots if injuries continue to impact the Warriors.
