Marc Gasol a potential option for more All-Star experience
The Los Angeles Lakers signed former 3x All-Star center Marc Gasol to a two-year deal last offseason, but Gasol did not really hold much of a role with the defending champions during the 2020-21 season.
With the Lakers signing both Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan this offseason, plus the fact that Anthony Davis will be spending more time at the center position this upcoming year, Los Angeles traded Marc Gasol to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Gasol, who spent over 10 years with the Memphis Grizzlies, was released by the team and has since gone back to Spain. It was originally said that the veteran big man would sign with a team in his home country and finish off his career overseas, but now, Marc Gasol may not be ready to call it quotes on his 13-year NBA career.
The 36-year-old center is definitely not the two-way star he used to be, but given his passing abilities and high IQ, he is definitely a player who could fit in quite nicely in the Warriors system.
Prior to signing with the Lakers last offseason, the Warriors were in talk with Gasol and came close to signing him, so they could look to take this opportunity to target him again.

James Wiseman is not going to play the entire game at the center position and Kevon Looney is a really solid bench player for the Warriors, but their depth at the center position is really weak. Bringing in Marc Gasol to add more experience and skill at a position the Warriors have always struggled at is not a terrible idea.
According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Marc Gasol could very much emerge as a possible option for the Warriors with their final roster spot, but there has not been a lot of talk between the two sides.
Given that the Warriors use their big men to screen and pop out on the perimeter, Gasol could fit in perfectly in Steve Kerr’s system, giving the Warriors another possible threat from the perimeter.

Given their tax/cap situation right now, the Warriors would definitely prefer to sign Gasol to a minimum contract, if they do actually have interest in signing him, but who knows what kind of contract Marc Gasol would want. If Golden State wants to add another frontcourt option, Gasol is definitely the best player they can potentially bring in.
