5. Dennis Schroder, Boston Celtics
Dennis Schroder badly misjudged what his market would be heading into the offseason. The Los Angeles Lakers offered him a contract extension during the season which was rumored to be a four-year deal worth more than $80 million.
Schroder declined, expecting to land a contract worth even more in free agency. Unfortunately for Schroder, that contract never came, which is why he ends up on this list.
While his credentials can be argued about whether or not he deserved a contract worth $20 million or more annually, there is no denying that the Boston Celtics have gotten a steal in free agency. The Celtics filled a need at the point guard spot on a major bargain.
Boston signed Schroder to a one-year, $5.9 million deal, not even offering him their full mid-level exception. For someone that is among a group of only 16 players to have scored at least 6,000 points with 1,500 assists since the 2016-17 season, that is highway robbery for a team.

Schroder is worth at least double, possibly even triple that amount per year, so for the Celtics to land their starting point guard for that price makes for one of the best signings this offseason.
