3. Doug McDermott, San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs have been one of the best franchises over the last two decades. Since losing their future Hall of Famers, the Spurs have struggled to get back to the postseason and have been rebuilding a bit.
This offseason, the Spurs agreed to a sign-and-trade deal that sent DeMar DeRozan to the Chicago Bulls. In free agency, they have made some head-scratching moves.
Doug McDermott sign a three-year deal with $42 million with the Spurs. It is hard to argue against Gregg Popovich and his vision for the team but giving McDermott that kind of money is hard to justify. He is one of the best college players of all time but that success has not translated to the NBA.
Along with McDermott, Zach Collins was given a free-agency contract that could leave some people confused. Collins was given S22 million over the course of three years, which is a combined $64 million along with McDermott.

These moves are hard to justify for a rebuilding team like the Spurs. These might not be long-term marriages and there could be a plan on the horizon so it will be interesting to see how the front office decides to plan.
