The 2023-24 NBA season has been a disastrous one for the Detroit Pistons. There was some optimism that they could, at the very least, challenge for a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament in the Eastern Conference.

The team made a splash by hiring Monty Williams to become their head coach. They added another top pick to the roster in Ausar Thompson, joining a group that already included Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart.

But, something just isn’t clicking for the Pistons. They broke the record for longest losing streak earlier in the season, going winless in 28 consecutive games after starting the season off with a 2-1 record.

Unfortunately, that isn’t the only record that the team could break this season. This year’s team is only one loss away from clinching the worst record in franchise history, which is currently held by the 1979-80 team.

NBA NEWS & SCORES: Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks Updates

On Tuesday night, Detroit lost to the Philadelphia 76ers 120-102. That makes Philadelphia the 19th team that has swept the Pistons this season. That puts them on the verge of making some ugly NBA history.

As shared by Eric Vincent of Clutch Points, the Pistons could tie the NBA record of being swept by opponents in a season. The current record is 21, which the Pistons have a chance to reach with their last two opponents of the season being the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs.

Dallas beat them a few weeks ago 142-124. But, the Pistons could be catching a break as the Mavericks have nothing to play for being locked into the No. 5 spot and a matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA Postseason.

San Antonio defeated Detroit 130-108 on January 10th. Victor Wembanyama made NBA history that game, recording a triple-double in only 21 minutes of action. With both teams already being eliminated from the postseason, the Pistons could have a shot to avoid brutal history in this one as well.
