Does this trade make sense for the Washington Wizards?

The Washington Wizards have no choice but to move Westbrook this offseason. It would not make sense to keep him around because of the current state of the franchise. If Beal is moved first, Westbrook will not be long after and this will finally put the Wizards into their rebuilding phase.

The Wizards have been near the bottom of the Eastern Conference for years now but still featured one of the top scorers in the league. This has kept them from completely rebuilding. Now, they have Westbrook and this took them even further away, especially after a postseason appearance.

Even with their backcourt, the Wizards are not a championship team and squeaked into the playoffs. That is not going to change moving forward which means they need to send away their stars in order to gain the appropriate assets.

Westbrook is one of their biggest names and that is why this deal could be on the horizon. There is a real chance he could request a change to get ahead of Bradley Beal’s uncertain future — similar to what he did during his time with the Houston Rockets.
