Lakers Need For A Point Guard
For the 2020-21 season, the Los Angeles Lakers had Dennis Schroder as their starting point guard. Los Angeles acquired him last offseason from the Oklahoma City Thunder, hoping he would bring that consistent third-scoring option to the team behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Things never materialized as the organization hoped, as Schroder did not step up when needed. After turning down a four-year extension worth more than $80 million, he could very easily be on the move this offseason.
With Alex Caruso also hitting free agency, the Lakers are in need of a point guard. Yes, James is capable of playing the position, but taking some of the offensive load off his shoulders would be a smart move for Los Angeles and Paul would help them accomplish that.
Paul, despite turning 36 in May, is still one of the most elite playmakers in the NBA. He showed no signs of slowing down, averaging 8.9 assists per game in the regular season and 8.6 per game in the postseason.

The Point God has still got it, mixing inefficient scoring and solid defense in addition to the stellar playmaking he provides. His presence would help elevate the performance of everyone around him and give the Lakers another bonafide playmaker to run the offense when LeBron James is resting.
