Miami Heat
After being swept in the first-round of the playoffs by the Milwaukee Bucks, a season after they made it all the way to the NBA Finals, the Miami Heat are one of the few teams expected to go “all-out” in their hunt for more talent this offseason. NBA Analysis Network’s own Evan Massey reported last month that the Heat are a team that could show interest in Dennis Schroder this offseason.
Acquiring Victor Oladipo at the trade deadline did not work out in their favor due to him suffering yet another quad injury, which is why Pat Riley and this Heat front-office will be looking to add a third, high-level player next to Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.
Being a quick and agile point guard makes Schroder a very intriguing player to pair with Butler and Adebayo, two other above-average athletes at their position. While they much rather get a guy like Kyle Lowry, acquiring Dennis Schroder could definitely be advantageous to the Miami Heat, especially since Kendrick Nunn is a free agent and Goran Dragic has a team option for the 2021-22 season.
In a sign-and-trade for Schroder, the Heat could potentially use this opportunity to dump the contracts of Dragic and/or Iguodala with no repercussions to them. Goran Dragic has a team option for next season worth $19.4M and Andre Iguodala has a team option for next season worth $15M.

Either one of these veteran players could be of service to the Los Angeles Lakers and their efforts to win another title, but who knows if the Lakers would be interested in either of these guys given their salary situations. In a move to execute a sign-and-trade involving Dennis Schroder, the Lakers will not only want to free up cap space, but potentially add that third, high-level talent they need.
If the Heat go after Schroder in this sign-and-trade scenario, then they will likely look to bring in some other teams in order to get the Lakers the asset(s) they want. Miami knows they need to make a move this offseason and bringing in Schroder definitely has its advantages for the Heat moving forward.
