Why Celtics should go all-out to trade for Pacers’ Myles Turner

Boston Celtics Need Long-Term Answer At Center

The Celtics landed Al Horford in the Kemba Walker swap, but that should not change their plans at the center position. They still need an upgrade there and Myles Turner would present that.

The Celtics look like they erred when signing Tristan Thompson with their mid-level exception last offseason.

While Thompson is still a great rebounder, he brings little else to the table. Turner would be an upgrade on him on both ends of the court because of his rim protection on defense and ability to space the floor on offense.

If Boston is going to upgrade its point guard position, it could use Thompson’s contract and some of their younger pieces. If Robert Williams III is someone other teams are interested in acquiring, that makes the need for a replacement center even greater.

Having someone like Horford come off the bench would be great for a first time head coach. That kind of veteran depth is hard to come by. But, if the Celtics go into the season with him as their starting center, they will have some long nights on the interior during the season.
