Keep Away From A Rival Team
As mentioned previously, having a center with the skill set of Myles Turner is something plenty of teams in the NBA would want to have. You can expect his market to be robust should the Pacers make him available, which should motivate the Celtics to make a deal.
For years Boston was close to landing players only to see them go elsewhere. How different would things look for them had they pulled the trigger on a player such as Paul George, Anthony Davis or Jimmy Butler, All-Stars who have been traded in recent years.
Boston would certainly not be getting eliminated in the first round of the playoffs with players of that caliber. While Turner isn’t on their level as an All-Star, it could haunt the Celtics for years if they do not pursue him and he ends up with one of their peers in the Eastern Conference.
Turner would shore up the center spot for the Charlotte Hornets, one of the teams who joined Boston in the Play-In Tournament. He would also fit in well in South Beach with the Miami Heat in a frontcourt pairing with Bam Adebayo.

Boston needs to make sure that doesn’t happen and get Myles Turner in Boston Celtics’ green.
