The Charlotte Hornets shocked the NBA world during the 2020 offseason when they signed veteran forward Gordon Hayward away from the Boston Celtics. Not only was it a surprise to see him leave Boston for Charlotte, but the amount of money he signed for was eye-popping.
Hayward and the Hornets agreed to a four-year, $120 million deal that blew all of the other teams’ offers out of the water. It was a risky move, but for a young team looking for some legitimacy and to move up in the Eastern Conference, it made sense.
Hayward had a good season as the wily veteran of the bunch. He averaged 19.6 points on an efficient 47.3 percent from the field, 41.5 percent from the 3-point line and 84.3 percent from the foul line. He rounded his stat line out with an impressive 5.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.2 steals in 34 minutes per game. The only issue was he played in only 44 games.
Injury concerns were a major red flag when Hayward hit free agency and they reared their ugly head again during the 2020-21 season. There is no denying the production he provides when on the court, but the question is always how many games will you get out of him?

Despite those concerns, some teams would be interested in acquiring him should the Hornets look to move on from him. If Charlotte includes a first round pick in the deal, plenty of more teams will be interested.
