San Antonio Spurs Receive: F Ben Simmons, G George Hill and F Paul Reed
Philadelphia 76ers Receive: F DeMar DeRozan, G Lonnie Walker, F Devin Vassell and 2023 first-round pick
Let’s say the Spurs aren’t looking to deal Murray, or the 76ers aren’t interested in Murray. While it would make things more difficult, San Antonio could make DeMar DeRozan part of the deal in a sign-and-trade scenario.
DeRozan is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, which means he’d have to sign a contract at least three years long to be included in the trade. Would getting a player like DeRozan make sense for Philadelphia, though?
Besides DeRozan’s inability to efficiently hit outside shots, the 76ers would need to make sure they are able to get under the cap to complete a sign-and-trade.
DeRozan did show this season that he can excel in a small-ball power forward role, which could interest Philadelphia in a sense. Also, acquiring Walker — who has a team option — and Vassell improves the depth on the 76ers.

Despite getting a star player in return for a Ben Simmons trade, the 76ers would likely want a player that adds more shooting to the lineup. On the Spurs side of the trade, they’d get George Hill — who Popovich has always loved — and Paul Reed to ensure the 76ers are able to make a sign-and-trade work.
