Besides finding a team that has a player that the Lakers want, Los Angeles could also find a third team that makes a trade work in the offseason. The Oklahoma City Thunder are a perfect third team in trades as they are content with inheriting reasonable contracts and draft capital.

If the Lakers need someone to take Kyle Kuzma in a deal due to another team not wanting him, then the Thunder could oblige. They will be looking to get compensated for taking on other team’s contracts just as they did when they landed Al Horford from the Philadelphia 76ers.

At the same time, Oklahoma City has some enticing pieces like Darius Bazley and Luguentz Dort. However, it’s improbable that the Lakers would move on from Kuzma in exchange for players who are still trying to find their roles in the league.

The only untouchable player on the Thunder is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, with the team having a makeshift roster of mostly younger players. Inserting Kuzma at the small forward or power forward position in the starting lineup could prove to be what Kuzma needs to reach his potential. There wouldn’t be much risk in Oklahoma City acquiring Kuzma from Los Angeles.
