After failing to win more than 27 games for three consecutive seasons, the Chicago Bulls found themselves 16-18 at the NBA All-Star break and currently tied for the 8-seed in the Eastern Conference. Billy Donovan has done a great job coaching this young group in his first year in Chicago, but Zach LaVine has continued to elevate his play and was named an All-Star for the first-time in his career.
This season, LaVine is averaging 28.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists and is shooting 43.5% from three-point range, making him one of the deadliest scorers in the entire league. This Bulls team will go as far as he is able to take them, but they do have some other solid players around their superstar guard.
Coby White, Wendell Carter Jr. and even veteran forward Thaddeus Young have all been putting together solid years and have helped elevate the Bulls to a solid record to this point in the season. There is still a lot of basketball yet to be played though and the Bulls will have to fight with as many as 8 other teams for the last few playoff spots in the Eastern Conference this year.
While they have been solid to this point, Chicago could be a team that looks to “buy” at the NBA trade deadline and add more solid role players for depth. If they wanted to, they could even target another All-Star like talent to pair with Zach LaVine.
