Bulls have discussed trade with Cavaliers for Andre Drummond

The Chicago Bulls have slowly been turning things around this season and they look like they might actually be a playoff-caliber team in the Eastern Conference. Granted, they are only 16-18 right now and are No. 10 in the conference at the time of this writing, but Zach Lavine is powering his team to wins. Now, it appears that the Bulls could be looking to trade for Cleveland Cavaliers star big man Andre Drummond.

According to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Bulls have discussed a trade for Drummond with the Cavaliers this year.

The Bulls have registered interest in Drummond, sources said. Cleveland has had some exploratory calls on Drummond, but skepticism remains on whether the team can find a desirable trade. The center is owed $28.7 million this season.

As the report mentioned, the Bulls will have a hard time getting something done due to the contract that Drummond has. That may not be the worst thing in the world either. Drummond is a talented player, but he might not be the fit that Chicago really needs to find.

So far this season with the Cavaliers, Drummond has played in 25 games. He hasn’t played since February 12th when Cleveland decided to stop playing him as they pursue a trade.

In the 25 games he has played this year, Drummond has averaged 17.5 points per game to go along with 13.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks. He has shot 47.4 percent from the floor overall.

Drummond is capable of stuffing the stat sheet, but he isn’t “elite” at anything except rebounding. His defense can be good, but he can also be below average. As a scorer, the big man is much better off getting a rebound and scoring on a put-back than trying to create something himself.

At 27 years old, there are quite a few teams with interest in Andre Drummond. While the Bulls are one of them, it seems more likely that teams would wait until he is bought out or a free agent to pursue him.

Expect to hear more rumors surrounding the Bulls and Cavaliers. Drummond could absolutely be moved before the trade deadline and Chicago might be a potential landing spot.
