The Cleveland Cavaliers have made an addition to their roster for the remainder of the 2023-24 NBA regular season. After signing veteran forward Marcus Morris Sr. to a 10-day contract, the team has opted to keep him long-term.

On Friday, it was announced that the Cavaliers are forgoing a second 10-day deal for Morris and signing him to a contract for the remainder of the season. Morris was signed when the team was hit hard by injuries on March 18th, as Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Max Strus were all sidelined.

Mobley was able to return to the court last weekend, while Strus came back on Wednesday. Mitchell could come back by this weekend, which led many to question whether or not Morris would be retained, but the Cavaliers put those questions to bed with a rest-of-season deal.

In five games with the Cavaliers, Morris has played rather well. He is averaging 7.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per game and has been on fire from the 3-point line. The veteran has connected on 43.8 percent of his attempts from long-range with Cleveland.

Morris also brings a level of toughness to the franchise that they were previously missing. He is looking to set a new tone for the Cavaliers, which he did against the Charlotte Hornets earlier this week.

Hornets’ center Nick Richards had gotten a few easy dunks and looks at the rim in the game. Looking to put an end to that, Morris checked Richards hard one time that he rolled to the basket. It resulted in Morris being ejected as he was assessed a flagrant-2 foul as he struck Richards in the neck area.

After the game, Morris talked about the indecent. He wasn’t trying to hurt Richards, as there was no malice in the play, but he wanted to set a tone for his team. It worked, as the Cavaliers rallied and picked up a victory.
