Dallas Mavericks Receive: C Andre Drummond

Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: C Dwight Powell, F/C James Johnson, G Jalen Brunson, DAL 2022 1st Round Pick, DAL 2025 1st Round Pick

So far this year, Andre Drummond has been really productive and has proven once again that he is one of the best rebounding centers in the NBA. He is currently averaging 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and is shooting 47.4% from the floor in 25 games.

Andre Drummond’s shooting numbers are below average for centers that do not shoot threes, but overall, Drummond has been very consistent in his limited time with the Cavs this year and is exactly the kind of player the Dallas Mavericks could use to make a deep playoff push.

With Doncic playing like a legit MVP candidate this season and Kristaps Porzingis finally looking like he is 100% healthy again, this team has a lot of potential, but still is missing that one extra high-level talent to be able to contend with the best of the best.

When you evaluate this trade, it is easy to think that the Cavaliers would not execute this trade for the fact that they do not want more big men. They have plenty of depth already in their frontcourt, hence why they would be trading Andre Drummond in the first place, which is why Dwight Powell and James Johnson could be traded somewhere else to a third or fourth team involved in this trade. A scenario of this kind will be something to track in NBA trade rumors.

Outside of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, the Mavericks do not really have anybody on their team that scares their opponents. Their whole gameplan right now is to give the ball to Luka and hope that he can either score or create an opportunity for one of his teammates to score, hence why we are seeing Doncic put up insane numbers and be close to averaging a triple-double for the season.

The Mavericks need to do everything they can to bolster this roster before the trade deadline, which is why Andre Drummond could be a terrific target for them. For a team that struggles to rebound, getting a big man like Drummond makes a lot of sense, but he is also a threat on the offensive-end of the court to score.

Andre Drummond has averaged a double-double for seven consecutive seasons now and for his career, has shot 53.8% from the floor. He does not stretch the court like Porzingis, but can create numerous second-chance opportunities for the Mavs because of his rebounding abilities and can draw a lot of attention to himself with the ball in the low-post, creating spacing opportunities for others on the perimeter.

Acquiring Andre Drummond should give the Mavericks enough firepower to make the playoffs in the West comfortably and give them a fighting chance against teams like the Lakers, Clippers and Jazz.
