Washington Wizards
Unlike the Nets and the Celtics, the Washington Wizards are one of the worst teams in the NBA even though they have the league’s leading scorer in Bradley Beal. The Wizards are just a mess roster wise right now and with Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal taking up over 50% of their team’s total payroll, this organization does not have much financial flexibility.
However, with Thomas Bryant out for the year due to a torn ACL and owed $8.3M and Robin Lopez being owed $7.3M this season, the Wizards could put some contracts together to equal Gordon’s $18.1M salary for this season.
Outside of Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal, this Wizards team has a lot of unknowns and young players that are still adapting to the NBA. Plus, who knows how long Bradley Beal is going to remain with this organization because he is clearly unhappy there constantly losing games!
Going out and trading for another high-level player could be enough for Beal to give the Wizards one last chance, especially since they could desperately need some help in their frontcourt. The Wizards are one of the worst rebounding teams in the league and are close to last in the league in total offensive production from their frontcourt.
Aaron Gordon is not a number one or number two scoring option for any team in the league, but he can definitely thrive with the Wizards in a “third-man” role next to two superstar players in Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal. Not only would he be able to defer to them, but they could also lean on him and rely on him to make some plays when they are out of the game.
For a team lacking overall talent and desperately needs another contributor, getting Aaron Gordon at the cost of some larger contracts and some draft picks could be highly beneficial to the Wizards’ future.
