Boston Celtics

Over the years, the Boston Celtics have been a team that is always a top of the Eastern Conference and a legit title contender, but have not seemed to figure out what the problem is in terms of reaching the NBA Finals. They have not had a chance to fight for a title since 2010 and numerous superstar players being brought in has not solved the puzzle.

With Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum playing like All-Star talents this season and with Kemba Walker close to being 100% again, the Celtics definitely have another shot to contend for a title in the Eastern Conference, but their frontcourt is still a mess. They did sign Tristan Thompson in the offseason and Daniel Theis has been good at times, but this team is an average rebounding team that can get “outmuscled” in the paint very easily.

Adding Aaron Gordon to this Celtics team not only gives them a reliable frontcourt option, but a guy who can help control the pace of the game for Boston. Given the ball-handlers that they have, Gordon would most likely be utilized more as a low-post threat and in pick-and-roll situations, but nonetheless, he would still be a factor on the offensive glass.

Bolstering the Celtics frontcourt and helping supply them with second-chance opportunities could be huge for this team down the stretch, especially since they have three All-Star caliber scorers. Defensively, Gordon does not improve the Celtics much, but he gives them a bug body that they are so desperately missing.

Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown account for over 60% of the Celtics total scoring this season and if you add Marcus Smart to the equation, then the Celtics core accounts for about 73% of their total scoring output. Boston cannot rely on three or four guys to win them a championship, which is why adding a big man to take some pressure off of their star players makes a lot of sense.

Aaron Gordon could definitely be a “security blanket” for the Boston Celtics this year in their pursuit for their first championship since 2008, which is why he is a prime NBA trade deadline target for them.
