Why This Trade Would Benefit The Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic have qualified for the NBA postseason in each of the last two years. They have been unable to win a series because of their very low seed. This could change moving forward if they make a productive move for a star or build up assets.
In this deal, they would be building up assets for the future. Nikola Vucevic seems like the cornerstone player for the Magic. He is a quality big who can do it all on the floor. It is important for Orlando to build around with players to complement him.
With Evan Fournier being in the final year of his current contract, the Magic will need to evaluate potential trade scenarios to find a replacement if it’s unlikely for him to return. That’s where Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Alex Caruso come into play.
The two players headed to the Magic in this scenario are both defensive contirbutors who can score a bit on the offensive end. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is more of a scoring threat from three-point range. They would also land draft capital that they would be able to use in the future deals.
