Why This Trade Would Benefit The Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves are in a position to blow up the roster and start over. This season seems to be lost already just 16 games in. Karl-Anthony Towns has missed time with an injured left wrist and it is unknown when he will return.
Towns’ feelings about the franchise were unknown during the offseason. The Timberwolves attempted to make moves to keep him happy but they could get rid of one here.
The return could be enough. Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell are close friend and have been since college and the draft process in 2015, when they went No. 1 and No. 2 overall. The Timberwolves just need some more good players. Edwards is off to a good start to his career while Malik Beasley and Naz Reid are beginning to turn it on.
In this trade, the Timberwolves would get back three potential starters along with two first-round picks. A rebuilding team is not interested in where those picks fall. That is only the Lakers who can live with it. This is a big return for a team that needs to completely reshape the roster.
The Timberwolves made the postseason just once since drafting Karl-Anthony Towns. This is something that will have to change moving forward. Whatever the plan is, it needs to begin soon.
