Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Chicago Bulls
The Bulls have a lot of young talent on their roster that have shown a lot of promise moving forward, but so far this year, the Bulls are giving up the second-most points per game on average to their opponents. They really need some help on the defensive end of the court, which is why getting a veteran guy like Patrick Beverley makes a lot of sense.
He could join the Bulls and immediately become the anchor for them on defensive. Wendell Carter Jr. and rookie Patrick Williams have shown some promise to be solid defensive players, but they need someone to lead them on that end of the court. Beverley could absolutely be the guy the Bulls need to “kickstart” their defense and make them one of the better defensive teams in the NBA.
Getting rid of Thaddeus Young does not really affect this Bulls team because they have plenty of options in their frontcourt and do not need Young moving forward. Lauri Markkanen, Daniel Gafford, Otto Porter Jr. and Wendell Carter Jr. all have bigger roles with Chicago than Young does and are all players that the Bulls want to utilize more moving forward.
Basically in this trade, the Bulls would be upgrading their backcourt and getting a young, unpolished player in Terance Mann for a veteran player eating up cap space on their roster. This trade would be a huge win for the Chicago Bulls if they could make it happen.
The question that remains is if the Clippers are willing to trade Patrick Beverley and if the Bulls would be able to keep all of their draft picks in the process. Given Los Angeles’ lack of draft capital, they could very well want one or two second-round picks included in this trade.
