Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Los Angeles Clippers
Patrick Beverley has been the “heart and soul” of this Los Angeles Clippers team over the years and is their starting point guard, but he has not been a reliable offensive player over the years. Given that the Clippers still have Lou Williams and also have Reggie Jackson off-the-bench, they do not necessarily need to keep Patrick Beverley if they don’t want to.
This team needs some help in the frontcourt and at a low price, they can get a guy like Thaddeus Young who you know what you are going to get with. He can score in double-figures any day of the week and can give the Clippers the big-bodied big man in the low-post they need on both ends of the court.
The Clippers are led by Paul George and Kawhi Leonard on the offensive end of the court and while this trade does not change that, it does give them another reliable player they can rely on. Serge Ibaka and Nicolas Batum were two key additions to the Clippers this offseason and have had an impact on this team because of their experiences in the NBA.
Both of these guys were successful veteran players before joining Los Angeles and the same could be said for Thaddeus Young if this trade was to happen. Having experienced guys who know what it takes to win is extremely important in this league and for a team contending for a championship, this could be extremely valuable.
Getting rid of Patrick Beverley may seem like a bad idea for the Clippers, especially given that they are one of the better teams in the Western Conference, but acquiring another veteran player in their frontcourt alongside Kawhi Leonard and Paul George could be the difference in them being a championship contender. Thad Young is not going to be the x-factor player for them, but he gives them depth and experience, two things you can never have enough of.
