Who Will Fill The Void Klay Thompson Leaves Behind?

Losing Klay Thompson hurts this team a lot, especially since he is one of the best three-point shooters in NBA history, next to the best three-point shooter, Stephen Curry. Fortunately for the Warriors, both Kelly Oubre Jr. and Andrew Wiggins are more than capable of stepping up and filling the scoring void Thompson leaves behind.

At the trade deadline last season, the Warriors were able to acquire Andrew Wiggins from the Minnesota Timberwolves and he will not only help fill the void Thompson leaves, but replace Andre Iguodala’s role. Iguodala was a big piece of the Warriors championship puzzle over the years and was the team’s primary perimeter defender.

Andrew Wiggins has proven to be a great defender over the course of his young career and can be an elite level scorer for Golden State. In 6 seasons, Andrew Wiggins has averaged 19.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and has shot 44.1% from the floor and 33.2% from three-point range.

Wiggins has been getting better and better as a scorer each season and with a Warriors team that puts an emphasis on perimeter scoring, Wiggins could be in line for a big season.

Kelly Oubre Jr. is another player who will step up big for the Warriors this season as a result of his “3-and-D” playstyle. Standing about 6’7” on the wing with a 7’3” wingspan, Oubre Jr. is an elite level defender and will make his presence felt on this team immediately.

Last season with the Suns, Kelly Oubre Jr. had his best season of his career, averaging 18.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and shooting 45.2% from the floor, 35.2% from three-point range. With two high-level scorers and reliable defensive options on the wing, the Golden State Warriors will definitely miss Klay Thompson, but have to be thrilled to have both Wiggins and Oubre Jr.
